Becoming a Guardian Family

We’ve written about the requirements to be considered as a Guardian Family, and how you can qualify. Take a few moments to read about our Guardian Program, if you’re not familiar with it. But this post is about Why — for us, for you, and for your new puppy.

First of all, consider what it really means to be selected as a Guardian Family for Maple Hill Doodles. It means that we entrust you with a very important part of our breeding program. And that’s huge. But it’s just the beginning.

We’ve heard comments that we only have the Guardian Program so we can save on upkeep and make money hand over fist from the puppies. False! A breeder makes less money keeping dogs in guardian homes. Read on, and you will realize the truth of that. A guardian dog has fewer litters (that alone is a profit killer); plus, we charge no fee to the Guardian.

Pick of the litter puppy, at no upfront charge

The puppies we select for our Guardian Dogs are the best of the best. Disregard the notion that we place puppies in homes because we can’t sell them. Far from it! These are puppies we want to keep for our breeding program. But since all of our dogs and puppies live with us in our home, there just isn’t room for all of them. And we refuse to keep any of our dogs in a kennel.

No long waitlist time

Typically, to adopt a puppy from any reputable breeder, it takes quite a while. People know we raise the cutest, healthiest, most well-adjusted and smartest Doodles in Ohio (tooting our own horn a little, here). So, there’s high demand for our puppies and sometimes a whole litter is reserved before a deserving family can join the fun. This is one way you can cut in line!

Support and advice on raw feeding

Feeding a prey model raw diet is the healthiest for your puppy. No question. It can also be confusing! Fortunately, you can purchase raw food packages online, or source it nearby depending on where you live. No guessing about portions or contents, because we have a very informative infographic that will guide you. And it’s even easier to store than ever. That’s why Maple Hill Doodles will be here for you, to advise you and support your decision to continue with raw feeding. We want your Guardian Dog to be as healthy as possible, to have puppies that get the best start in life. Those first benefits are probably the Big Three as far as puppy families are concerned. There are day to day expenses that will be your responsibility, of course, like professional grooming, training and normal puppy supplies. A puppy can never have too many toys! But we also provide some extras.

Free puppy sitting

When your family needs to go out of town and can’t take your puppy along, she can come here for her own little visit. After all, she was born here so it won’t be strange to her. Let her stay with us, and she won’t be confined to a pen for a week. She’ll have lots of playmates, and you can save on an expensive boarding bill. Plus, she’ll be used to visiting with us, so breeding and having her puppies here won’t cause her any separation anxiety.

Free glamour shots

Every kid needs milestone photos, and your Guardian Puppy is no exception. When she’s one year of age, Maple Hill Doodles will foot the bill for a professional grooming and photo shoot. Awwwh!

We’ll maintain a close relationship with you for the life of your Guardian Dog. She started life as one of our babies, and our relationship with her – and you – doesn’t end when she’s grown and finished having puppies. We’re still family, and you are too.
